The last few weeks have seen box offices clashes week in week out starting with Dilwale v Bajirao Mastani, Airlift v Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3, Mastizaade v Saala Khadoos and Ghayal Once Again v Sanam Teri Kasam and this week will see another one with Fitoor v Sanam Re. In fact the only film to get a solo release in the last two months or so is Wazir.
The Fitoor v Sanam Re clash is a bit like Airlift v Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 where the smaller film Sanam Re has chances to beat the bigger film initially. Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 and Airlift had opened on a similar note but while one film went up throughout the day the other went down and this was reflected in day two business..
Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 had the genre and here Sanam Re has the music with one major hit song. This could allow Sanam Re to open better though Fitoor will be catching up in the evening as its seems a film for the post 6pm audience at premium multiplexes.
The release will also play an important part here as the gap between Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 and Airlift was just 100 odd screens in the favour of Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 but here it could be around 800 as Fitoor will release on around 1200 screens and Sanam Re at around 2000.
Sanam Re has a heavy single screen screen while Fitoor is mainly a multiplex release. This is a factor on day one especially if a can open to decent collections but after that if the content is not there the drops can come very fast for the wide releases.
It should be a close call as far as first day collections are concerned unless reports of one film are far better than the other.
