The first quarter has seen a huge rise in business of 34% compared to the first quarter last year. This year has seen the first quarter collect 507 crore nett apprx while last the figure was 378 crore nett for a similar period. The release count is 60 films comapred to 52 last year. The films which had some awarenesss were 15 as compared to 11 last year..

The big difference is the Republic day week releases. Last year both Baby and Dolly Ki Doli could only muster up 90 crore nett while this year Airlift and Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 managed 150 crore nett. This is a huge difference of 60 crore.

Still despite this rise the business is still down from the first quarter of 2014 which grossed 522 crore nett. The roadblock will come in May this year which looks weak compared to a huge May last year. The plus is a Shahrukh Khan film in April so despite very releases in the month it should be a big month.

Eventually it will come down to the second half of the year whith the big films for overall growth but with this lead in three months and a Shahrukh Khan film to come, the first half should be in a good position compared to last year.

The ATP (Average Ticket Price) has seen an increase of 7.2% as against the first quarter last year.
