Dear Zindagi has scored very well in Overseas. The film opened early in US / Canada on Wednesday and grossed a decent $200,000 but the opening was even better in The Gulf where it grossed $360,000 on day one. The genre and content is there for the North America market but Gulf being stronger initially is a surprise. It could be that the Wednesday start in US / Canada meant it could not do business to its full potential. The opening in the two biggest Oversaes markets suggest a big weekend in Overseas. The biggest openers in Overseas this year are Sulta, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Fan and this film won't be able to challenge any of them but the rest are there for the taking.
Obviously the film can't exactly be called an Alia Bhatt starrer due to the extended guest role of Shahrukh Khan but for Alia Bhatt it is the biggest opening Overseas and its because its the first time that she is opposite a big star even though Shahrukh Khan does not have a full fledged role.
Dear Zindagi has a chance to clock around $4 million in three days and the highest Alia Bhatt openers Overseas are Kapoor & Sons and 2 States which are both a little under $3 million. The directors last film had also done well in Overseas with around $5m and US / Canada contributed almost 40% of this business.
