Begum Jaan took the tenth best opening day of the year as far as Hindi films are concerned and it was a holiday and that pretty much tells how bad the opening was. The real value of the film will be around 2.50 crore nett. The opening is lower than films like Phillauri and Ok Jaanu despite it being a holiday.
No Hindi film this year has taken a bumper opening with Raees being only the excellent one. Jolly LLB 2 has the second highest opening day but even there the opening was average as collections were not that great in the morning with a wide release. In terms of initials, Badrinath Ki Dulhnaia was the second best start of 2017 but its collections were than Jolly LLB 2 due to fewer screens and less growth in the evening due to exam period and Holi period..
The openings have been generally poor but the films have been small as well. It is the big films Rangoon and Kaabil which have been the big disappointments in terms of initials with just 5 and 8 crore nett respectively.. The top ten opening days of 2017 are as follows.
1. Raees - 20,29,00,000
2. Jolly LLB 2 - 12,06,00,000
3. Badrinath Ki Dulhania - 11,68,00,000
4. Kaabil - 8,02,00,000
5. Rangoon - 5,06,00,000
