This week will see a major Hindi release Raabta clash with a big Hollywood film The Mummy and it will be no surprise if the latter comes out on top even on day one. Raabta will have a wider release but that may not be enough as the film does not have much going for it.
There was a claim by the makers of Telugu blockbuster Maghadeera that Raabta is a copy of their film that went to the courts and a decision was to come on Wednesday. Its unlikely that the film is a copy but parts could have been inspired by the Telugu film.
Raabta looks a reincarnation theme film which has huge potential in Hindi cinema but here it seems to be done in a way that the audience will struggle to understand a simple reincarnation theme. The trailer is so confusing so you have to assume that the storytelling style of the director is unlikely to be better because the best foot is normally put forward in the trailer. If the film is better than the trailer than that is a different strory. The film seems to be missing that earthy desi feel which is important for most films but even more for reincarnation. It looks an urban reincarnation film which only a maker of this era could make.
The plus for the film is that the songs are decent especially for the North audience with that Delhi type Punjabi touch in the songs. But even this plus is not much of a plus here as the hero has no popularity in the North so visually they probably have not made a mark in the North despite songs being decent for that market.
There is one more film releasing Behen Hogi Teri which looks a non starter. The promo was poor and the makers even managed to make a mess of the classic song Janu Meri Jaan from Shaan (1980) with a ridiculous remix.
Its looking another weekend for Hollywood unless our Hindi films surprise with their content.
