Padmaavat has recorded the highest opening weekend of all time in Overseas. The film saw a weekend of $11.60 million with around $1 million coming in paid previews which gave it a weekend total of $10.59 million. The previous record was Dhoom 3 which grossed $10.32 million.
Padmaavat is the second film to go over $10 million in the first three days after Dhoom 3. All the top films feature Khans but now the biggest one of them all is not a Khan film. The biggest reason to get top place was a huge 3D release especially in the US. Though even without this it would have been among the top films but not the biggest. US / Canada was the best market with $4.43 (All Time Record) over the weekend and $4.94m including paid previews.
Gulf underperformed with $1.7 million and that is probably the only market across the world where the film has not done big business. The top ten opening weekends in Overseas are as follows. (Hindi films only)
