Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has taken a strong start with collections in the 30-35% region. If we take morning occupancy then the film is actually the second best opening of 2018 after Padmaavat as occupancy is better than Pad Man though obviously its a lesser release.
The film was always looking to open well in Delhi / NCR / Punjab belt the content holds appeal for tha area and the songs which have done well had a very North flavour but the film has managed to open well in most of the major cities across India. The film will still out perform in the North and if the merits are there then it will mean a sustained run in Delhi / Punjab multiplexes which will mean a good long run.
The other release Welcome To New York had a poor opening though Punjab will be better due to the presence of Diljit Dosanjh. But the film is a spoof film and these have a limited market especially in North. On top the film is a comedy on the film industry which has scope in Mumbai as things about the industry are more widely known there but the rest of the country is generally unaware about filmy jokes. There are very few films which have worked that are based on the film industry.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is far ahead of last weeks Aiyaary despite being a smaller film and a weaker cast but the entertainment factor in the trailer and music makes the big difference. It has opened 60% plus better than Aiyaary and it has the potential to grow better than Aiyaary over the first day.
