Padmaavat has done huge business wherever released but in one market it has missed the boat and that is Gulf. This is the biggest Overseas market today as has the highest revenue with the highest number of Hindi releases compared to other circuits over the year. Padmaavat  has not reached $3.5 million till Tuesday and this is when the other big Overseas market of US / Canada is at $9.25 million.

Basically in US / Canada it is on course to be highest grossing film ever while Gulf will not even do 50% of US / Canada. It has beaten Tiger Zinda Hai in all Overseas markets but it is half of Tiger Zinda Hai at present in Gulf with Tiger Zinda Hai at $7.15 million.

This is weird as its not a Secret Superstar type of scenario which does so so in the normal Overseas markets but phenomenal in China as in China it is not a sub continent audience but local Chinese audience which is a different audience and they have liked it whereas the Indian sub continent audience has not. But in Gulf it is that Indian sub continent audience like in US / UK and Australia so this sort of difference should not really happen.

The only explanation can be is that Gulf is very pro Khan with their films dominating the highest grosser list (only 4 non Khan films out of top 25). So while Sanjay Leela Bhansali made a name in the western markets like Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas to have clout with the audience its not the same in The Gulf which was a late developing market. Bajirao Mastani also say an under performance in Gulf but it was not to this extent.
