Romeo Ranjha grossed 52 lakhs nett in East Punjab and 3-4 lakhs nett in the rest of India. The collections are not up to the mark considering the film has a big budget.

The film needs big growth to have any chance of succeeding as it needed a 2.5 crore nett weekend to have a chance of covering costs and that now looks a huge uphill task. The film is the first big Punjabi action film in the multiplex era.

Action films which dominated Punjabi cinema from 1975 till 1985 will probably find it tough now due to budget restraints compared with Hindi films and Hollywood releases. Although Romeo Ranjha has a big spend going by Punjabi films it is nothing compared to 150 crore of Dhoom 3 or the Hollywood films which are seen regularly in the multiplexes of Punjab and with ticket rates so high the audience expects a high level in action films which budgets of Punjabi films don't allow.

The collections are not bad if you look at what Punjabi films have done over the six months or so but some films costing much less than Romeo Ranjha have pulled in similar numbers and that too a year ago.
