Housefull 4 will emerge the highest NETT grosser ever for a comedy film as it edges past the numbers of Golmaal Again. The film will be around 20-25 lakhs nett behind Golmaal Again after week five but will hang around in cinemas for a few weeks more espcially in Maharashtara and Gujarat to finsh around the 206 crore nett mark. The GROSS numbers and footfalls will stay behind Golmaal Again, in terms of footfalls it will also not be the best Housefull film as Housefull two had 1.57 crore footfalls and Housefull 4 will have around 1.50 crore.

 

 

The comedy genre does not give huge grossers as only two films have crossed the 200 crore nett mark and that too just about got past. Even in history only one film is near 300 crore in terms of adjusted figures and that is Namak Halaal and even here this film can be put into comedy zone or masala zone as it has all the other elements of emotions, action, romance and dramain good doses. This is the only comedy film if it can be called that which has gone over the 2 crore footfall mark in the history of Hindi cinema.

 

 

There is a big gap between the top two (Golmaal Again and Housefull 4) and both are Diwali releases which is a major reason. Housefull 4 has done very well to get over the 200 crore nett and not just because of the negativity when it released but also because the film did face issues in making. Around 60-70% of the film was directed by Sajid Khan and then it was completed by Farhad Samji and there will also be a difference in implementation when directors change and also a films suffers when the original director who has completed most of the film is not on the edit when the film is complete as the vision of two directors will be different.

 

 

Golmal Again hit almost 2 crore footfalls on Diwali 2017 and that could have been the target with original director Sajid Khan and this would amount to 250 crore nett plus. The other highlight would have been Nana Patekar who also had to replaced in the film midway. Rana Duggbatti was the weakest portion of the film and Nana Patekar in this part would have kept the humour of the film intact. There was the potential of a South actor helping the film in the South but that was not the case as South did not outperform.

 

 

If the film did not have these issues it could have taken comedy films to the 250 crore nett level and now this has to be the target for the next in the Golmaal or Housefull series as these are the only franchises that have the potential to take comedy films in India to this level and a Diwali release would also be a huge plus.
