Mumbai Saga surprised on Sunday with a 3.50 crore nett total which meant an 8.50 crore nett first weekend for the film. This 3.50 crore nett is not a huge number or anything but it is way more than anyone could have expected considering the ground realities on Sunday.

The film managed a 50% apprx jump on Sunday despite there being the most night curfews and restrictions since films started releasing again with Roohi. There were major centres like Ahmedabad, Surat, Indore and Bhopal which were shut and there were were places like Thane and Pune under heavy restrictions which meant limited screenings. Also many other areas in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh had limited screenings. In the North, Punjab had saw many cinemas remaining shut due to heavy restrictions.

Despite this the film showed a good turnout in the afternoon shows on Sunday across Maharashtra with single screens recording 40-50% occupancy in the afternoon when 50% was the maximum allowed. The film easily lost around 1 crore nett on Sunday because of these restrictions coming into force. Then you take into consideration the lower business anyway due to the pandemic and its pretty certain the film would have had a healthy Sunday pre covid times driven by Maharashtra. 

The growth on Sunday would have given the film a good chance of holding over the weekdays but restrictions in Maharashtra will be going to an extra level with random testing in malls which will mean less people going to malls from Monday onwards. It may still show a hold on Monday but with the situation with the pandemic going the wrong way you would have to say its unlikely. There are also restrictions to start in Rajasthan. Its unlucky for Mumbai Saga that the area where it could have done well is the area which is worst hit by the pandemic at present.
