Godzilla Vs Kong opened to fair collections on Wednesday morning with the Hindi circuits opening to numbers which were similar to Roohi and Mumbai Saga but at the end of the day it could not reach the numbers of the two Hindi films. This is probably down to a Wednesday release but more likely because of more night curfews.

The all India number of Godzilla Vs Kong was good as South where the box office has seen better results was good so you had press reports celebrating the return of the audience and how Sooryavanshi and Radhe can now bring back and even more of the audience but that is the idiotic press for you.

Funnily press reports were saying the biggies can come now with Godzilla doing so well but at the same time the industry was basically in shock and knew that the big releases are out of the question at the moment unless this second wave of covid turns around fast. The difference between a Roohi / Mumbai Saga and Godzilla vs Kong was that the the latter had good reports compared to the poor word of mouth for Roohi / Mumbai Saga. The numbers of Roohi / Mumbai Saga were seen as okay because the films were not upto the mark and doing around 20 or 15 crore nett in this situation is fair.

Godzilla vs Kong is a different story as here the film was far better and the Saturday insane growth in Mumbai and Delhi NCR actually prove the film is a HIT in Hindi circuits as well but this will not show in collections due to the restrictions and a limited audience coming out. In a normal situation a good film will always score at the box office but at present there is hardly any difference between a good film like Godzilla vs Kong and poorer content like Mumbai / Saga and Roohi in Hindi circuits

In the Hindi markets Roohi and Godzilla V Kong are heading for similar numbers though the latter may come out a little better in the long run especially as big films are likely to be postponed. Still doing a few crore more than Roohi despite far superior product means the market is just not allowing the business at the moment. Irrespective of good or bad content you can only do the business that the box office allows you to do and the Hindi markets are in a bad shape right now.

There has been a change of scenario in the last three weeks and thats why a Roohi actually opens almost 30% better than a Godzilla v Kong like for like. It can be said Roohi released on Mahashivratri but if Godzilla v Kong was released a day before Roohi it would have sailed past the Mahashivratri number of Roohi in all Hindi circuits even without a holiday.

The opening day numbers of Roohi, Mumbai Saga and Godzilla Vs Kong in Hindi markets are as follows. These numbers are without South so for Mumbai, Delhi / UP, East Punjab, CPCI Rajasthan and East India.

1. Roohi - 2,37,00,000

2. Mumbai Saga - 2,24,00,000

3. Godzilla v Kong - 1,87,00,000
