The Tamil film Doctor looks to be heading to be the top film post the second lockdown. The cinemas in Tamil Nadu opened a few weeks later than other places and has seen some releases but the collections were muted but this film Doctor has probably turned the tide.
The film was released on Saturday rather than Friday and has done business of around 23 crore nett in 3 days across India with around 20 crore of this coming from the home state of Tamil Nadu. Doctor will be emerge the best performing film across India post the reopening of cinemas in August. The Tuesday drop is around 15-20% in plexes so it will be another good day for the film. The film had limited screenings in Delhi NCR but saw decent occupancy over the weekend. The three day numbers of Doctor are as follows.
Saturday - 7,75,00,000
Sunday - 9,75,00,000
Monday - 5,50,00,000 apprx
Total - 23,00,00,000 apprx
The Punjabi Moosa Jatt had an average response as it got delayed by a week due to censor issues. The film could not collect well in the big 6-7 centres but it opened very well in the B and C centres of Punjab with some cinemas recording the best numbers since the pandemic. The 50% rule was a killer in these places though some places they would have bended the rules.
But a huge chunk of the business comes from the big centres which have the big multiplexes and without these on board the numbers can never be huge. Delhi was also poor for the film. Still its a decent runner and the first four day collections are as follows.
Friday - 65,00,000
Saturday - 60,00,000
Sunday - 65,00,000
Monday - 28,00,000
TOTAL - 2,18,00,000
