Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui could not really pick up over the weekend as it had a 12 crore nett plus weekend. The film opened to low numbers but there was still hope as the second day would be crucial and a strong pick up would put the film back in the race but it did not happen.

The collections did improve on Saturday but not the way it should have and then on Sunday the growth was going to limited as the ratio of busines coming from high growth areas like Gujarat, MP and UP is very low. It has been said over the last two weeks that the new corona virus variant Omicron has affected audience mentality and kept them away but that is not the case as Spiderman - No Way Home iwill see the audience back in huge numbers. This is not to say that Omicron will not affect as you never know how thw pandemic plays out in time but at the moment Omicron is not even an issue at the box office.

The problem facing Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui was that it was that urban multiplex film which may have become an OTT film now post the pandemic. It cant be said with certainty yet but at the end of the day a film in this zone should not be collecting less than the likes of Antim - The Final Player and Tadap over the weekend as those films will hardly have an audience at bigger multiplexes but because of mass support in certain parts of the country they managed to get better numbers. 

The multiplexes in NCR which drive these sort of films were better but just never went up on Saturday like they did before the pandemic. The film had a very Punjabi feel but even there Gurgaon and Chandigarh was like 45% of the East Punjab circuit while others did not collect well

A lot of the content coming from the industry pre pandemic was television content but with a normal market it sometimes managed to score at the box office (read Vicky Donor, Neerja, Kahaani, Pink. Andhadhun etc) but the story seems to have changed now and many of these types of pending films could opt for digital premieres. Its bad timing as with the box office just starting again and most Hindi films in this zone they had to give the box office support as the big films are limited.
