Brahmastra (Hindi) had a huge third Friday as it collected 8.50 crore nett apprx due to cinema day and this is the second highest third Friday of all time after Bahubali - The Conclusion for a film in Hindi. The film racked up almost 14 lakh admissions which is just 20-25% less than its first day admissions.

 

 

This now takes the film over the 200 crore nett mark and is the first original Hindi film to go over the 200 crore nett mark post pandemic fair and square. Yes there was The Kashmir Files but over the first 2-3 weeks that film had so many paid and sponsored shows with sometimes whole screens being booked out and this was at a level never seen before in the history of Hindi cinema. Here the box office is totally organic and done like most films do it.

 

 

The cinema day has been a huge success for exhibitors with huge occupancy and popcorn running out at places across the country and for the public and for Brahmastra which would have never got this number on the third Friday though it must get 21-22 crore nett over the week as that is how much it would have got if cinema day did not happen.

 

 

For the industry itself there is more work to be done as this is not viable in the long run and there has to be longer testing periods which will be eminent as a balance has to be formed between occupancy and collections. For the bigger films this just cant work as it does not allow the collections they need to come. The main issue is high priced concessions and it is going to be very difficult to find correct pricing as some films will only collect at INR 75 while others can easily even collect at INR 300. There is the story that this has shut up the boycott bandwagon but that was pretty much nothing and irrelevant anyway and became an excuse for bad films.
