The advances of the Diwali releases Ram Setu and Thank God started opening yesterday and its looking like neck to neck race between the films with similar advances. It is very early with advances opening late afternoon yesterday but both films sold a similar number of tickets though Ram Setu has an edge with higher ticket pricing.
There will be a clearer picture by evening today but it is pretty certain that current will decide which film gets the better collections on day one. Also the Diwali holiday is the biggest day of the year for collections and it is generally about current as mass centres get huge numbers.
Last year there was Sooryavanshi which was an event film but this year neither Ram Setu or Thank God are event films so the realistic target is to get at least as much Sooryavanshi did last year with both films and it would be good if it can go towards 30 crore nett combined. Sooryavanshi had opened 26 crore nett with restrictions.
The advances of both Ram Setu and Thank God will be not anything great as its only a few days of adavnce and that too over pre Diwali weekend but that will not matter much as the audience will come on Diwali holiday.
The edge in advances should be for Ram Setu as that may have a larger audience at multiplexes and is at higher rates and if this lead comes it will be minimal but in places where advance does not open there could be a better response to Thank god on the day due to the genre.
