Ram Setu has taken a good start at the box office with collections in the 30-35% range thanks to the Diwali holiday. The mass centres have shown a good response with opening shows showing good occupancy which is the Diwali affect. As is the case with Diwali there were full houses with the noon shows in the Hindi belt.
The film had these expectations built of a 22-25 crore nett opening in a certain section of the industry due to fraud tracking firms but these sort of numbers were never going to be the case as Sooryavanshi was 26 crore nett last Diwali with a solo release and it was an event film. There may been restrictions in Maharashtra but it was a Rohit Shetty film so in Maharashtra that factor is enough to cover the restrictions.
The realistic target would have been 15 crore nett for the film and there is a possibility that the film can achieve this and this number was unthinkable yesterday morning as advances were less than Raksha Bandhan. The advances finished similar to Raksha Bandhan but the opening momentum is much better this morning that 15 crore nett becomes a possibility.
The film has Akshay Kumar in a non hero type of look and there was no music for the film and these two factors are so important for an initial today so the film has done well to get a solid audience in on the opening day even if it is due to the Diwali factor. Now it will be down to the reports as when collections are pushed by holidays they need support of reports otherwise can come down quickly.
Ram Setu saw a release on around 3100 screens which is similar to Raksha Bandhan but more than Bachchhan Pandey.
