Drishyam 2 has taken a very good start at the box office with collections in the 30-35% range as the film continues with strong momentum from the advance picking up on Thursday. The opening day number will be a huge surprise due to how the box office has gone this year where most films struggled.

The film may turn out to be one of the biggest openings ever for a Ajay Devgn starrer on a non holiday which would have not been expected by anyone. The way the film has started it should collect more than Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior on day one which had more initial elements and was released before the pandemic.

The advance of the film was meandering along early this week but just bust out on Thursday as it sold more tickets on this day then the total advance before it. It is hard to say why this happened so suddenly as there were no signs earlier with advances adding 30-35% daily and then adding 115% on the final day.

The film is being driven by Mumbai circuit with Gujarat / Saurashtra set to record excellent collections. The film is a little weak in UP and Punjab but should pick up there as they day goes along. Drishyam had opened shockingly low in 2015 and Drishyam 2 has done the opposite and shocked on the plus side. The film obviously has some brand value as it did well on satellite and the opening is probably because of that.
