Oppeneheimer set the box office on fire with collections of 13.50 crore nett which is more than films like Fast X and Mission Impossible which were both around the 12 crore nett mark. The film driven by the brand value of director Christopher Nolan has primarily collected in English.
The film did not release in Tamil or Telugu but there was a Hindi version but this has only accounted for 10% of the collections.. The film scored big numbers across all the major centres across the country with the bigger metros leading the way. There is a big contribution from the South which is a huge plus for English films as compared to Hindi films. Mumbai city which now struggles for Hindi films was also outstanding for Oppenheimer..
The other Hollywood release Barbie also scored very well with 4.25-4.50 crore nett on day one. This may not look a big number but the film was only released on 850 screens plus while Oppenheimer was 1900 screens. Its a very good number for the release and on top the genre is not strong in India and these type of films hardly get numbers in India. The Barbie brand will have some takers though especially in the major metros.
It is pretty insane that around 17 crore nett collections have come from ENGLISH language in INDIA on the first day when both films released are not exactly in the genres which score best in India.. The top ten openings for Hollywood in India post the pandemic are as follows.
1. Avatar - 39,87,00,000
