Munjya is looking set to emerge the much needed HIT as it is set for an excellent Saturday wich should reach 6.50 crore nett and even may go to 7 crore nett. This would mean a total of almost 11 crore nett in two days and further growth to come on Sunday although it maybe curtailed somewhat due to India v Pak cricket match. the match is late so the peak afternoon period should go as normal.
The film had lower rates on Friday but it is still looking at solid growth which should be 50% plus. The film had collections in the Hindi circuits on day one without a cast and that gave its box office a good feel and the film has just gone on from there. A circuit like CP Berar collected 30 lakhs nett on day one and day two looks to be near 40 lakhs nett and these collections are simply outstanding for this circuit for a film like this with no face value whatsoever.
The wait is for Monday to confirm the HIT status but on this trend more importantly the all round performance of the film that pretty much looks a certainty. It just seems a question of how far the film can go. This is the second time that Maddock Films have got it right where films cater to that lower middle class audience without the aid of box office stars and big budgets. Last year it was Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and this year Munjiya looks another one and its the ONLY banner which seems to be getting it right when it comes to catering to this core audience with smaller films.
It will be said there was 12th Fail last year and this year you have Laapataa Ladies which is a sort of perception type of HIT that the industry loves but is actually far away from a HIT but these films dont really get that core audience in the circuits and are limited to metros. The way forward for the industry is to cater to the core audience and numbers will come but generally the industry is unable to do that.
