Sky Force is the first major release of 2025 and advances opened late on Tuesday and yesterday was when most of the screenings got loaded and basically the sales are being driven by hugely discounted rates which work out even cheaper than the rates on Cinema Day. The response would have been decent if this advance was at the normal rates but at these sort of rates where you are getting a ticket only at Rs 25-50 it had to be better as its practically free tickets.
There maybe an awareness problem as its just been a day and when word goes around that tickets are so cheap then advances get better as its not many times that you get to watch a big film at these sort of rates. Also as the discounted rates are for the weekend there is no spike for the first day and sales are there for Saturday and Sunday also.
There is no precedent for this film as this sort of thing has never happened before and eventually its about whether the film can stand on its own feet without the aid of these discounted rates. This sort of stuff is not good for an industry almost on its knees as it makes things harder for films that dont have a craze and huge interest as audiences will start only to come for the regular bread and butter film with discounts.
The hope with Sky Force will be is you get a decent audience into theatres with these cheap rates which should happen though is never certain and then the reports are good so the film can work on the merit of the film without any aid. The collection will have to be taken with a pinch of salt until when or if these huge discounts are not in play. There will be a huge cost to these discounted rates but obviously the makers have deep pockets.
