The much beleaguered cinema industry is seeing a return to some sort of normality this week as the Tamil film Valimai breaks records in Tamil Nadu and records the highest opening day in state. the highest number so far is just under 24 crore nett by Annaatthe and it is practically certain that Valimai will beat this number as every major centre is higher. Its about how much higher it goes than Annaatthe despite that being released on a huge national holiday.
In all likelhood it will be the first film in Tamil Nadu to breach the 25 crore nett mark and thats a great result for the industry in Tamil Nadu. The films in South are very lopsided towards the initial so the film still will have work to do post the opening due to the high price in Tamil Nadu. Outside Bahubali - The Conclusion there a just a couple of films to hit the 70 crore mark in Tamil Nadu and Valimai will have to be the third film to cross 70 crore as it has fetched close to 70 crore in Tamil Nadu.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is seeing good advance numbers in Maharashtra / Gujarat while other metros are also decent giveing it an encouraging advance overall. The advance for the weekend will finish in the 3.50 crore nett range which is not a huge number but decent for a heroine orientated film which is more of a content driven film rather than an initial film.
In pre covid era this film may have hit double digit numbers and probably be the highest opener where the there is no major male lead and driven by the female lead and now post covid19 that is probably a tall order but if it can get a good push on Friday then it can hope to get close to that 10 crore nett mark and that would be great for the future releases to come over the next few months.
