Tu Jhooti Main Makkaar has done pretty well on day one with collections around 14.25 crore nett driven by strong collections in the NCR belt and Gujarat / Saurashtra. Bangalore is also good as it was not a holiday there but outside Gujarat the Hindi belt should have done better due to Holi. Even maybe Gujarat should have better as its a huge holiday there.
The big let down was Maharashtra and then there were stations shut in UP and East for Holi which hits collections there but this all recovers the day after Holi. The music of the film was a hit but it was tilting towards an urban film which seems the way the masses have seen it.
The film is essentially is a bit of a family drama but has been promoted like a youthfull rom com which was essential as if it was shown as a family drama then it becomes a struggle at the box office today initially but if you can get the audience in then they have a chance and this where the this films stands today. The film has got enough of an audience to give it a chance.
There will be a drop today in the big centres as its working day but it will be about where the film goes from Friday evening as the audience must return then and Saturday collections have to be back at the levels of day one if not more. Some of the mass pockets which were affected by closures due to Holi will be better on day two but how much better depends on appreciattion and it may be less in these centres as the film is more of a big city film.
There is no doubt that pre pandemic this film would have taken a much higher opening but things have changed post pandemic with the demand for films which cater more for the mass audiences while this looks a film for for the bigger cities only.
