Stree 2 has set the box office on fire as it takes a huge opening across the board and by far the biggest opening of the year. It is looking to double the opening day collections of the likes of Fighter and Kalki (Hindi). The paid previews collected an insane 8.50 crore nett apprx and this total only five films this year have managed to reach on their respective first days.

The paid preview surprise was East Punjab as it collected almost 80 lakhs when it looked like being the being the weakest circuit but that horror factor must have come into play here as cast does not have a big male lead and on top Hindi comedy also struggle in the circuit. Delhi / UP is the standout with fantastic collections as is the central belt and Mysore. East was also fantastic though Mumbai and Nizam / Andhra could have been better though former should come through today with big numbers. The occupancy generally was huge in paid previews.

The film will surpass all expectations on the first day as expectations when the trailer hit were for a 30 crore nett day, maybe 35 crore nett but its going much further. Today when there is a craze film then that film tends to open higher than what is expected even by the most optimistic and that includes the makers but when there is no interest its the opposite as films open below the most pessimistic expectations. There is a huge divide today and what the public feel about the film comes out in the first day which was probably not the case pre pandemic when a plus like a big star or hit number could push a film higher than its merits.

The Stree 2 opening was much needed with such a dull seven months gone by and openings being a huge struggle and only 3 films in double digits and two hitting 20 crore nett and one of these 20 crore nett ones being from the South. The film can pretty much be called the biggest HIT of the year so far just on this initial but that is also because it is not really competing with much as there have only been two SUPER HIT films. The real story will unfold over the next few days as that will tell how big this film will become.
