The new release this week was The Buckingham Murders and it had a low opening day with business likely to be a little over 1 crore nett and in the 1.10-1.15 crore nett. There is very little hope for a film with a name like this and pretty much irrelevant to the Hindi audience especially today. Its pretty hard to tell if the film is in Hindi or English from the trailers. The film also has a so called Hinglish version released which can only come form this film industry.
The huge chunk of the collections are from PvrInox chain with the contribution being around the 70% mark and it will be mainly centres like Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore which have some collections. The film is probably one which was to go straight to television but today the streamers want a theatrical release so the film has to come to theatres.
A look at the directors filmography with films ike Aligarh, Omerta and Shahid and other such films can pretty much tell there is little hope even though here there is star presence of Kareena Kapoor. Its just not cinema and the public knows it.
There was a old film revived this week also with Tumbadd (2018) which collected better with collections in the 1.40-1.50 crore nett range but this film actually has a bigger promotional spend than the new release The Buckingham Murders. There have been a few old films revived over the last years or so and some have done decent mainly films for the youth with the college crowd following on low ticket rates.
