Cocktail 2 which is a sequel to the 2012 film Cocktail has seen decent advances which should reach over 50k at the national chains by Thursday night. They stand at 18k apprx now and should see good momentum tomorrow. The film will be more for national chains then other places and the target will be to get at least as much as Cocktail (2012) on day one which was around 10.50 crore nett.

In theory it should be more as Cocktail was thirteen years ago and pricing is so much higher but in those days the Rom Com genre held much more appeal and on top Cocktail (2012) was not much of an appreciated film anyway as it got in a good weekend but could not sustain well so franchise value here will be limited. 

The plus for Cocktail 2 is the music and it has one of the handful of genuinely popular actresses with Kriti Sanon. The heroine is so important for the genre and more so today as it has a limited audience. If the leading lady is not one of popular ones then you can almost right off a film in this genre today.  The ones which have managed to do some numbers post pandemic would have had a popular actress.

The biggest film in the genre post pandemic remains Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar which did 130 crore nett apprx and Cocktail 2 will find it hard to challenge this number but if it can get to 100 crore nett it would be good result all round.
