The repeat run of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani yielded excellent results as it collected 12 crore nett apprx in the first week and it started with 1.1 crore nett on the opening day but ended with 1.35 crore nett on the last day of the week. The also collected an insane £55k in United Kingdom on a re run which is just unbelievable for such a market.
The film is the right zone for repeat runs as targets the college going crowd on low rates and these are the films that score in repeats but why this time the film has scored so big while the previous run had no response is not explainable apart from maybe timing. Another blockbuster Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai opened today in its repeat run and it remains to be seen how that goes though thats more of a mass love story than urban love story and its the latter getting crowds. The target is to hit 200 crore nett for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and that is just for the record books. The collections of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani till date are as follows.
Initial Run - 1,77,99,00,000
Repeat Run - 12,00,00,000 (week one)
TOTAL - 1,89,99,00,000 apprx
The main new release this week was Game Changer which is a dubbed film from the Telugu film industry. The opening was so so aided by external elements which will mean bigger multiplexes show better collections than others when organically it is actually the other way around. The film has a huge budget which needs Hindi to fire but the setting and look of the film is such that you know from the trailer it is not going offer much for the Hindi circuits.
Also the content is similar to an old film released in 2001 called Nayak which was directed by the same director and was a poor film with weird VFX making it worse. The film has opened to a good response in the home Telugu market but for a huge frontloaded market good is not enough for such a huge film and you have to take a much bigger opening.
The original Hindi release was Fateh which opened to a poor response. The film is being screened at a discount rate of Rs99 but a discount rate alone wont help much unless there is interest in the film. Also it does not help much when one film alone goes the cinema day way as when the public sees a new film being screened like this and others at normal rates it comes to head that something is wrong with the film. There is external elements here also.
Next Friday cinema day may materialise and then all films will be at discounted rates and this will give all the films a boost.
