Its been five years since the pandemic and the industry contines to struggle as can be seen with the results of the last two weeks. It can be said that a Hanuman Ansh and Mirzapur is there which gives the industry a boost but sadly it does not work that way. The problem is that there is no low for a rejected film. Films like Haiwaan and Daayra may not be good films but they are also not at that level which should be doing just 7-8 crore.

All this does is bring more fear and and the way things are going it will be not be big grossers which will get rid of the present struggle but when these sort of Haiwaan and Daayra sort of results are washed away with. It was looking pretty decent with sequels driving business this year but then it takes a couple of films to remind how bad things can be with new titles and rejection. 

The star system is dieing and unless some miracle happens Salman Khan will be that last big male star that the Hindi film industry will see. You always have hope but it looks sequels and budgets for huge scale will drive initials and at some point the sequel factor will reduce. Now is that in 2 years 5 or 10 cant be said. There are these South stars where stardom remains as they have a very loyal following in their respective home territories but for a Hindi response they need that sequel or budget / scale factor also. This star system issue will eventually catch up there also.

In the industry its seen that most films are proposal types which is true as so many films are made but the industry does not have five genuine filmmakers. But it would be the same in 1966, 1976 or 1986 as well as even then there would at the best five genuine filmmakers and most films would be proposals and get made when the maths fitted. But there the success ratio was 40-50% and now its 5-10% and the difference is that at the time the producers knew their audience and gave what they would be interested in. Now whether this was liked or not or depended on the film but they got people in initially to have a chance to be liked. 

Today the producers do not know what the audience wants which is a must as those genuine films will be so less as there are so few genuinely talented directors. But films have to be made outside these directors and for the rest its about knowing the audience and this dwindling star factor makes it even harder but some way has to be worked out that on a worst case there is some interest at least when a film releases. Once you get an audience in and then the films fails its not as a big of an issue as the audience just not turning up.

The urbanization / westernization of people in the film industry over the last thirty years is an issue as thinking changes but nothing can be done about this and it would have happened in many other industries as well. The difference being here that you cater to an audience by and large which has not gone that way especially in terms of the cinema they would like to see. The rule has always been cater to the bigger Hindi states (UP, Gujarat, MP etc) and all will work out but the industry was getting away with it for so many years by getting results by catering to five cities and now it is finding shifting back a tall order.
