Blackmail had a poor opening of 2.50 crore on day one with a pretty wide release. Hichki had grossed 3.25 crore nett on around two thirds of the screens of Blackmail. Some sort of growth should come over the weekend and it could be good growth on Saturday but the film has a long to way to go and will need a very solid Monday.

There have been films called Blackmail before and despite being cast films both have failed. One was in 2005 with Ajay Devgn, Sunil Shetty and Priyanka Chopra and was a box office disaster. The other was the Dharmendra, Rakhee and Shatrughan Sinha in 1973 which also floped badly but eventually was a coverage film it had repeat runs due to the huge star value of Dharmendra through the 70's and 80's. It remains to be seen how the 2018 Blackmail goes.

If we look at the solo Irrfan Khan starrers then its in the range of his normal opening. The fisrt day collections of recent Irrfan Khan starrers are as follows.

Blackmail - 2,50,00,000

Qarib Singl Singlle - 1,68,00,000

Hindi Medium - 2,50,00,000

Madaari - 1,98,00,000

Jazbaa -  3,94,00,000

Talvar - 2,50,00,000

The opening of Jazbaa is higher as it had a stronger cast with presence of Aishwarya Rai but generally the openings are in the 1.50-2.50 crore nett range.

The opening of the film is in the range of Hindi Medium which went on to be a HIT and it would be no surprise if Blackmail had similar growth like that film over the weekend but Monday is where the crunch will as Hindi medium had far superior reports.

The other release of the week Missing had extremely dull cillections of 15 lakhs nett apprx.
