The advance of 83 has remained slow with one day of advance left. A huge ratio of the advance are the big 3 multiplex chains of PVR, Inox and Cinepolis and they are looking at around 1.1 lk tickets for the weekend as of Wednesday night. In these cinemas this is the best advance post the pandemic for Hindi films as Sooryavanshi did not open advance at these places. The problem is the sales are only in the range of a Good Newwz or Kesari which were far smaller films. Sooryavanshi did open advance at most places but where it did open advance it pointed at a strong opening which is not the case here.

This advance actually would have been okay if there were not such huge costs involved in making the film. The film is one of the most expensive Hindi films ever made and the landing cost will be among the the top three costliest films in Hindi cinema. Also the insane advance of Spiderman - No Way Home gave hope that 83 could do something when the advance counters opened, obviously it had no chance to match the numbers of Spiderman - No Way Home but to be just 17-18% of Spiderman - No Way Home at the same time is lower than expected.

83 should make a little more headway on the last day of advance on Spideman - No Way Home and will probably finish with an advance 25-30% of that film. Actually if this came before Spiderman it would have been looked at differently but when the advances go mad on one film then the next huge film is not expected to be low.

After Sooryavanshi this is the next real test of the box office. Sooryavanshi just about managed to get over the line thanks to a huge number in Mumbai circuit. Also that was the first film back and there were other fears that it could go wrong so the numbers of that film were more of a relief. Here this film has to do a little better than Sooryavanshi to get over the line but it also comes when the box office situation is better than the time of Sooryavanshi as that was the first film back.

The business is still not optimum but last week has seen Pushpa do excellent business in single screens of many circuits and Spiderman - No Way Home was excellent at multiplexes all over and both these were not Hindi films and in reality an outright Hindi film like 83 has to do well to give the industry a boost. It is releasing in other languages also but that will be pretty much irrelevant as dubbed Hindi films hardly do any business.

There are issues with the single screens in some parts of the country as Spiderman - No Way Home had booked for two weeks and now in some circuits the exhibitors want to retain Pushpa on half the shows as it is going strong. But this should not matter much as 83 is not really a single screen film and 85% of the business will be from multiplexes. It is the multiplexes across India where it has to score but going by the advance its going to be about the current crowd as there will not be much up on the board before that first show on Friday morning. The biggest boost is the holiday period and collections will improve very well on day two as it is a national holiday so despite the advance not really happening the holiday period gives some hope for 83.
