Drishyam 2 has fair advances as its probably looking at an advance of around 4.25-4.50 crore nett in total with the national chain advance for the first day having a shot at being among the top three for original content this year. The sales here have been boosted pre advance sales as tickets were available on certain days before the actual advance opened and this will give the film a 10-12% boost in terms of advance sales at the national chains.
The movement since advance opened on Friday has been on the slower side driven by Maharashtra and Gujarat which have better advances. This has been the case with many films which start advances pretty well when they open but just dont push as fast as they should. Here the pre advance sales were good (read here) but again slow momentum leading upto the release. Drishyam released in 2015 had done better in these parts so the second film is likely to have higher recall value in these areas especially Maharashtra.
The industry has seen a very dull phase post Brahmastra but Uunchai has given some positivity and the Drishyam should keep this going. It will be come down to the trajectory of the film but if crowds come on the day in reasonable numbers then maybe it can go towards a double digit opening number which will mean less work in terms of growth.
The business will be driven by Mumbai circuit and the film must record good numbers here as there will be under performance in the North due to the look of the film. But if the film has content then North can also come on board over the weekend.
