Gadar 2 remains on course to create history as it shows a strong Monday hold. The film is a historic blockbuster but to stay in the race for a 500 crore nett final today it needed to continue to hold on the second Monday. The first week had that holiday period and then the weekend hit so Monday was crucial to stay in the race to be the biggest grosser. If the drop went towards 50% then the road to 500 crore would have become tough.

The film should manage around 14 crore nett on its second Monday and maybe even go higher if the evenings run faster.. The next test is probably going to be Friday as far as multiplexes go asit will screen space due to the new realese. In single screens the film is a one horse race and will keep them till Jawaan in the first week September.

The film has bought back the glory of Hindi cinema as the Hindi belts rack up crazy numbers. This is where India lives as can be seen by the population of UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, MP etc. When the numbers came in these areas back in time they were held back with huge taxes so the industry never really benefited and now when those taxes are much less the sort of cinema made over the last twenty years and infrastructure in some states not keeping up with time has meant numbers not matching the population.

The biggest HITS in recent times in these mass pockets have been from the South (Bahubali and KGF 2) and Gadar 2 will go past these films in the core Hindi belts. As there as so many states to cover for Hindi films the mass also differs in different circuits so in a Maharashtra Gadar 2 will remain below the South Indian films. Its like going  back to the old days when a Coolie (1983) stays below a Himmatwala (1983) in Maharashtra and a Sharaabi (1984) stays below a Tohfa (1984) and Maqsad (1984) in the same state.

Himmatwala, Maqsad and Tohfa were films with the South flavour in Hindi while Coolie and Sharaabi were Bachchan starrers that was real HINDI cinema. Maharsahtra at the moment is tilting towards South when there bigger action films come but hopefully this trend wont last too long. Maharashtra business is an issue as it contributes so heavily so it needs to back on side.
