Happy Phirr Bhaag Jayegi had a poor opening of 8-10% and is depending on growth which will probably come as the collections are so low. the film is a sequel to Happy Bhaag Jayegi released in 2016 which did reasonable business at the box office.
Happy Bhaag Jayegi did reasonable business but is not exactly a much watched film which needed a sequel and the limited interest has resulted in this poor opening which is pretty much in the same range as the first film.
The cast is a little better than the first film and so are the production values but it has not made much of a difference in terms of initial. A solo Sonakshi Sinha starrer Akira had actually opened to 4.80 crore nett in 2016 and at the time it was a so so opening. It shows how expectations have dropped from smaller films in just two years because if this film was doing near 5 crore nett it would have been seen a strong start.

Happy Phirr Bhaag Jayegi has better collections in Delhi and East Punjab and those are the markets that it is depending on. It was a similar story with the first film which performed far better in these two areas. East Punjab has a couple of Punjabi films running which affected last weeks Gold and Satyameva Jayate so it could be same here.
Genius was the other release of the week and has opened to practically zero collections at metro multiplexes. The film seems mainly for single screens but here Gold and Satyameva Jayate are holding the better collecting single screens.
Genius will do a little better in UP and Bihar but its not really got the correct single screens where it could have had some collections from. This film will have a problem even if growth comes over the weekend as the starting point is too low.
