Maa has collected well on its first day with around 4.75 crore nett as some mass pockets recorded good collections due to the horror genre. The film had to contend with a strong holdover in Sitaare Zameen Par and the Hollywood film F1 which made collections tougher in the bigger centres and bigger multiplexes as those films were first choice but still its come out with a good first day number.
The competition and horror factor has led Maa to higher ratio of collections from mass centres and these places like Odisha and CP Berar will find it tough to go higher on Saturday but they should go higher on Sunday. West Bengal is also very good at 35 lakhs plus collecting almost as much as East Punjab. The opening is easily the best for Kajol as a solo lead but the tougher part will be getting good growth on Saturday. The film also has higher numbers than Sitaare Zameen Par (Day8) and F1 in mass centres due to genre.
The Hollywood film F1 opened well collecting around 5.25 crore nett as business was very good in the metros and this is a very good number for a sports drama. There is Sitaare Zameen Par dominating screenings at PVRInox and this has probably come in the way of the film as it could have done a little more if Sitaare Zameen Par was not there. The film is bound to show growth on Saturday as its doing well in cinemas which have their best day on Saturday. The support is limited outside the metros but that is expected due to the genre of film.
