Tenet is looking to come in above expectations in the international markets where it has been released. The expectations were of around $25 million over the first five days but the limited data so far suggests that it may reach $35 million or even $40 million. The crucial numbers will be from the UK which are not available yet but Christopher Nolan films normally outperform in United Kingdom.
The country had around half its cinemas open before this weekend but that number has gone up to 80% plus with the release of Tenet. A $4-5 million total was expected in UK but with numbers from South Korea and Italy being above expectations the hope is that UK will also do the same as will Germany and France which should be the the other big contributors. UK has a bank holiday weekend so it could be the that the numbers from UK come out on Tuesday.
The film hit around 40 international markets and Canada which is domestic market and if it can get above the $35 million haul from international markets it would be a good result in these uncertain times. Its about getting the box office going and Tenet has done that in most of the markets where it has been released. The film will see a release in USA and China next week which are the biggest markets but the USA market may have to do without cinemas in New York and Los Angeles which are not open yet. The film will probably reach 75-80% of the cinemas in USA.
