The second weekend of Tenet saw the film release in its domestic market of USA and China but the results were not as encouraging as last week when international markets saw a $50 million weekend. The domestic business was $20 million apprx which includes previews but this is with many of the bigger cities still shut and around 30% plus of the cinemas shut.

If things were normal then a film like Tenet would have been expected to pick up a $50 million weekend so its a fair performance considering 30% plus cinemas shut and social distancing rules in cinemas and on top the fear of Covid19 infections as America is still close to the 50k infections a day mark.

The performance in China was also so so with around $30 million including previews. Here the market is in a better condition with most theatres open and a local film already heading for a $400 million plus total. The worldwide numbers for the film are around $150 million after its second weekend with around $130 million coming from internationally and $20 million from domestic.

The film may hit the $200 million mark in international markets while it is impossible to tell where it is going domestically and the hope will be more theatres open up over the next couple of weeks. Under the circumstances the film has done well as a $250 million worldwide number is big in these times and it could even go higher.
