Drishyam 2 is looking at a 14 crore nett first day which is a very good opening day and in the business scenario today it can be called excellent especially for a film with hardly any music. The film will edge past the numbers of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 mainly thanks to the difference in business in Maharashtra. Mumbai circuit is looking to reach the 5.50 crore nett mark. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was not called an excellent opening day at the time but at that time it was not known how major releases will tank left right and centre and the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 number would actually remain a target to be shot at.

The opening is likely to be the third best of the year for original Hindi films though the film in second place Ram Setu was a Diwali release so that hardly counts. It could be that Drishyam reaches the Ram Setu number though it will need likes of UP and Bihar to show strong collections which is unlikely as these markets had a slower start.

It will be the fourth best opening for Ajay Devgn after Singham Returns, Golmaal Again and Total Dhamaal beating a film like Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior and all these releases were pre pandemic with initial value. Here its a film post the pandemic without the initial elements but still gettimg an opening. The box office has become much more unpredicatble post the pandemic and no one knows what actually happened from yesterday for this film to catch this sort of momentum as there not signs early on the week like for a Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Brahmastra.

All in all its another solid week at the box office, last week was a decent week as Uunchaai surprised on the positive and this week is looking very good with Drishyam 2.  Generally the norm has been poor results week in week out and lets hope the tide has turned now.
