The tough times continues for the industry and this week becomes a hugely important and will be a huge test. Housefull 5 will release and it cant be understated how important it is for the film to work, it is not about Housefull 5 per se but the genre and zone of the film. The flow of films is down heavily as the industry is trying to come to terms as to what to make.

The action film is generally out of reach due to the budgets and the ones which would cost less are the rural rooted ones but due to western and English influences of the last twenty years within the industry there is no one to makes these (Gadar 2 is an exception to the rule and made by a director from a different era). So that rural rooted action will come for the South from time to time as certain makers there have a conviction in the format which is years old.

So with the action zone being generally out of reach it makes the comedy genre the one which remains in the commercial zone and can bring in the biggers numbers but if films like Housefull 5 are unable to give good numbers then it hardly gives confidence for genre which is possibly a way out of this rut over the next few years. A comedy will never have the potential of an action film but is probably the next best bet.

A good result is a must especially as its a sequel and the honestly the advances should be better but a 1 lakh finish in the nationals chains you take considering the pace of advances till now.  But the story of Housefull franchise has always been after the first day and it will have to be the same here.  Although the film is pegged as a huge event film it cant really be called that and the advances tell its not an event film.

The film is probably the third biggest Akshay Kumar film ever after Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sooryavanshi in terms of budget. Even here the media budget is like 350-400 crore which is actually comical and would be suicide to make a comedy at that cost even at the best of times. The highest grossing comedy ever is Bhool Bhuaiyaa 3 at around 250 crore nett while Housefull 4 and Golmaal Again are around 205 crore nett. Ideally you would want Housefull 5 at the top of the pile but that is a huge ask with these advances and getting around the marks of Housefull 4 and Golmaal Again from here would mean more than recovery in terms of costs and also appreciation for the film.
